Meet the Lieutenant
Our experience meeting Lt Constable Craig Cummings and his wife.
The Meeting
We met the Constable and his wife at a nice restaurant called weights and measures. In total, there were 7 of us.
The Lieutenant and his wife, the president and vice president of TPUSA, Houston Chapter, myself as Events Chair, and a member of DHS and one of the members of our chapter.
I led us in prayer, we ordered mocktails, and delicious fried cheese sticks with tomato sauce.
Family
First, the constable introduced himself, then talked about his family life. Him and his wife have one son with Autism, who they love and cherish immensely and despite his social struggles, is very talented and was recently excepted into a nice college.
I saw two parents that love and cherish their son, and see him as a blessing.
After, we asked questions about their faith and marriage.
Faith
They're both confessing Catholic, but do not regularly attend. I told them my mom was Catholic before she converted, and it wasn't to late to start going to a good protestant church.
We both laughed at such at the friendly frank questions and suggestions. although, we were very light about it, I do want to see my local leaders in church. In community is accountablity. So I reminded him to not neglect the assembly of believers.
There is an understanding of the truth in the lieutenant and since America has been largely Protestant, Anglo Saxon, he seems to lean towards right local governance and not Rome.
Of course, were on the same team so it was all playful and loving, and we musnt forget the barbarians are at the gate!
to give him credit, he aims much higher than most Western Evangelicals. Lacking that pull towards that dead faith of antinomianism.
Protestants, by nature of their latin name, protest against something, and me thinks progressive "Christianity" protests to much.
Between that and respect for anctient practices. This is why, I think, Catholic and Orthodox churches are currently growing. Modern Evangelical churches are just too fake and gay for a lot of men. To characterize it more accurately, effeminized.
Prayer
unlike most, Lt Cummings shows strong courage and moral fibre. I pray they are at peace, believing that Jesus's death is all they ever need, and that their faith is assured.
Blessed is he who hears the Word and obeys.
Mrs Cummings
We also got to ask some questions to Mrs Cummings. She was very glad to get the chance to speak, about her husband. although had to think of something on the spot.
I gave a look to Craig and a little "Ooh noo", at her hesitation. He laugh while trying to eat his food, she hopelessly looked up and smiled hoplessly, all in quick moment, between the serious.
His passion, she said. His drive to do what he knows is right, and to answer to his calling. You can tell they love spending time and adore each other. She supports him in his mission, but desires more time with him.
Experience
Mr Cummings then went into his experience as a Lt Constable serving for (25) years, he began explaining the different political structures of government within law enforcement networks, and his insight therein.
He spoke on leadership, delegation, and finding good people. Knowing when to listen to the people on the ground. When to take advice from the people on the ground, and how to ignore bad suggestions. All the tough questions and decisions making involved in high up security.
Big News
After a he informed the Lieutenant hadn't announced yet, but was going to be running for Harris County Sheriff. Against Democratic incumbent Ed Gonzales.
He is currently making is plans and gathering his allies, and meeting with as many people as he can. The biggest issue to him to fix is response times. In Harris county, police don't arrive for sometimes hours if you ever see on at all. I have experienced this first hand, in town.
The problem, he says, is they do not do localized dispatching, meaning, the closest cop in the area is not the one who gets sent out. This is how so many cases become back logged.
With a better system in place, strongly led and delegated, he believes he can fix the problem. Another way is, by increasing career pathways and pay for police, that specialize faster. He believes we can improve the quality and response of the police we already have. Seeing untapped potential in our current force.
My contact from DHS was there, he was curious about how he will be working with ICE. Mr Cummings said he has no interest in deporting the fathers that have been here for decades. However, supports ICE in enforcing action against criminal cases. He was pretty passionate appeal to mercy, but will assist ICE in their mandate.
The temperature in Houston is hot towards ICE, but I believe there is a silent majority, glad that ICE is doing their job, without the performative cruelty. Houston is an emotionally charged, multi-culture society. With a large Latin American population making up 37% of Houstonians. Many of which have ties or close relationships to illegal migrants.
The problem is corruption breeds weakness. If we do not enforce our laws then, our high trust society will be ruined, by the people that would take advantage of it. Laws protect the innocent, and lawlessness incentives evil. Houston is a hub for human trafficking and cartel activity, we should support our local agents and encourage them to seek justice and love mercy.
Side note:
After watching a bunch of body camera footage. I notice a lot of self-righteous, none compliance. When someone is endowed with the right to take away your life and liberty. You don't try to run or fight. You take it to court.
Romans 13:1-7
1 Let every person pbe subject to the governing authorities. For qthere is no authority except from God, and those that exist have been instituted by God. 2 Therefore whoever resists the authorities resists what God has appointed, and those who resist will incur judgment. 3 For rulers are not a terror to good conduct, but to bad. Would you have no fear of the one who is in authority? Then do what is good, and you rwill receive his approval, 4 for she is God’s servant for your good. But if you do wrong, be afraid, for he does not bear the sword in vain. For he is the servant of God, tan avenger who carries out God’s wrath on the wrongdoer. 5 Therefore one must be in subjection, not only to avoid God’s wrath but also ufor the sake of conscience. 6 For because of this you also pay taxes, for the authorities are ministers of God, attending to this very thing. 7 vPay to all what is owed to them: taxes to whom taxes are owed, revenue to whom revenue is owed, respect to whom respect is owed, honor to whom honor is owed.
It seems as though people have lost the art of constructive argumentation, I am myself am still discovering it. It takes a sort of temperment. A humble understanding, and certainty from a diciplined mind, the peacful fruit of righteousness. Being born again by the Spirit to produce its fruit. For which there is no law against! to not be a clashing symbol or a clanging gong.
Thats what opens mens eyes to see and his ears to hear the truth, in a world filled with so much confusion.
